A meme is something that is popular for seemingly no reason other than it being spread from person to person, much like a disease. However, memes are often funny. They are basically inside jokes, except, inside jokes usually have a premise.

For instance, Becky and Joan are hanging out, and Becky slips on some grapes, and begins laughing hysterically. Every time Becky and Joan see grapes, or say the word 'grapes', they may begin laughing hysterically. This is an inside joke, albeit a very bad one.

Now, say that Bob and Joe are hanging out, and Bob goes "Hey, did you know that Chuck Norris can divide by zero?" "Why?", Bob asks. "Because he's Chuck Norris, duh". Now, that is circular reasoning. Something cannot logically be right just because it exists. However, if they continually tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends, and their friends tell that joke to friends... eventually it becomes very popular. You can use the joke on someone you've never heard of, and their recognition of the meme makes it all the more funny to them. The only way for a meme to die out is for it to become disliked, and thus not spread. Then, everyone who knows about it has to die without spreading it further. Much like a disease.
