Emulysian Fields - Where Kefka Would Go if He Had Internet - THE place for ROMs, Gaming, and Emulation

Advertisements on Emulysian Fields

You were likely sent to this page because you use Adblock Plus. If you don't feel like reading this, just click here. Adblock Plus is a great utility, I use it myself, actually. It prevents loads of popups, popunders, lightboxes, ad reminders, in-text ads that confuse the reader into thinking the author is personally endorsing whatever it is has been injected into their article, context ads that rape your reading experience, the list goes on. Adblock Plus definitely makes browsing the internet much more enjoyable.

However, sites like Emulysian Fields aren't heavy on advertisements. The most you will see is three on any page, with the exception of thread viewing which has two ads if the page has at least nine posts, and you're viewing with the standard of 10 posts a page, which will result in four ads. The other two are the header ad and the navbar ad, and most pages just have those two ads. We don't use context ads, in-text ads, popovers, pop-unders, or anything we find to be obtrusive. Occasionally, we test new forms of advertising, but, we rely heavily on the feedback of our users to influence the decisions we make regarding whether or not we keep anything. If you don't like our site, that's not good for us, nor you. Hell, I browse the site myself (regularly), and I can tell pretty quickly which ads are annoying. And we don't use those.

And, I'm being up-front here. Most popular websites don't need a lot of the money they get from advertising. I mean, they have workers to pay, as well as overhead and expenses and whatnot, but, they are plenty successful. We are not. We receive, in all honesty, one donation every 6 months or so (if we're lucky ), and it's for something like five US dollars. That alone (nothing against the donators) will not cover much of anything. As it stands, EF is way in the red with domain name purchases/renewals, whoisguard renewals, and the cost for the vBulletin license alone was $160 USD, and that all comes out of my pocket. If we run out of space/bandwidth and need to upgrade, we're basically screwed, as neither myself nor the site fund can afford that. We are honestly extremely lucky to even be online, and that's only because we have a strong base of users who enjoy our site.

TL;DR: EF makes very little money, and what it does make, it needs desperately.

Blocking our ads while using our website is essentially giving us a big middle finger () in return for trying to make a cool place for gamers on the web. If you can unblock EF's ads from your ad filters, it has the potential to help us out (traffic and the gods providing) quite a bit. It's not the same as donating, but, it is rather helpful.

At this point (and thanks for reading this far), you can do one of two things. You can just close this page and ignore us (and have an annoying red bar at the top of every page (I should make it flash, )), or you can allow us through your ad filter. If you decide on the latter, there are two ways, both of which I will provide instructions for.

Instructions

Method 1 (this method is preferred, as it enables our ads on all .emulysianfields.com domains

  • Click Tools » Adblock Plus Preferences (or just press Ctrl + Shift + E if your system allows it).
  • Click Add Filter
  • Paste in: @@||emulysianfields.com^$document

Method 2:

  • If you have the Adblock Plus Icon in your toolbar (made available by right-clicking your toolbar and selecting customize, then dragging it onto your toolbar), you can do it by first going to any page that starts with http://www.emulysianfields.com .
  • Click the arrow right next to the Adblock stop sign, and click "Disable on emulysianfields.com".

If you allowed Emulysian Fields through your Adblock Plus filters, we are extremely grateful. If your ego needs to be stroked, email me with an attached screenshot of the forum home page without the red bar at the top, and with your adblock plus window opened, showing the filter. I will personally reply with a thank you. In all seriousness, every bit helps, and it all counts toward us being able to stay up and running. Thank you very much for your patronage. =]
